All kinds of good things are happening at TIHAN! We’re gearing up for our signature fundraising event, our 2024 Treasures for TIHAN party and auction. Tickets are on sale now, and we’re also hoping you can help with donating an item for us to auction (with a deadline of 5/10). A reminder about state tax credits that benefit you and us, a Sunday afternoon classical music concert, a volunteer appreciation event at the zoo, and a brief profile of one of our fabulous volunteers!

We’re Accepting Donations of Auction Items
Can you or your business/organization contribute an item or a gift certificate to support the cause, and receive exposure in our community of hundreds of compassionate people who share your values? Gift certificates, event tickets, ceramics, jewelry, services, trips – we like to have a wide variety of items to auction off! Contact us — we can pick up your donation, or you can drop it off.
Auction items that you would like to donate or that you have collected for the event may be dropped off at the TIHAN office (2660 North 1st Avenue) from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday. Also, item pickup may be arranged by calling TIHAN at 520-299-6647.

Claim Your Tax Credit Before You File Your Tax Return!
Be sure to claim your Arizona state tax credit, and note the new amounts this year. Since TIHAN is a Qualifying Charitable Organization providing assistance to low-income Arizonans, your donations to TIHAN qualify you for a state tax reduction. Simply donate before April 15, 2024, and you can still claim it on your 2023 tax return! By donating to TIHAN, you can reduce your Arizona state tax liability with a dollar-for-dollar reduction (up to $421/person, or $841/married couple filing jointly). Put your tax credit dollars where your heart is! Invest in TIHAN and our programs and services, and direct some of your state tax dollars to TIHAN. TIHAN’s QCO Code is 20359, which you should include when you file your state tax return.

Dove of Peace Charity Classical Music Concert Features the Return of Violinist and Concertmaster Steven Moeckel – Sunday, April 21, 2:00pm
Join us for an afternoon of special music with Dove of Peace Lutheran Church’s charity series. Former TSO and True Concord Concertmaster Steven Moeckel returns to Tucson to perform solo works by Beethoven, Poulenc and Saint-Saëns. Pianist Nathan Arch will accompany Steven Moeckel.
The concert takes place at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church: 665 W Roller Coaster Road. Admission is free, and a free-will offering will be taken in support of TIHAN. Dove of Peace Lutheran Church (north of Oracle and River) has a rich history of musical and liturgical excellence and social ministry to the local, national and global communities.
Volunteer Spotlight: Elizabeth
If you have been to Poz Café in the past five years, you’ve probably seen her there, helping lead the dining room operations. Elizabeth, pictured here with her partner Austin, is one of our awesome volunteers, so we wanted to help you learn a bit more about her.
She grew up in El Paso, then attended college in Las Cruces at NMSU before moving to Tucson in 2018. She got a job offer at Citi, and moved to Tucson without knowing anyone here. She’s risen through the ranks, and now works as a financial analyst. “After I moved to Tucson, I was looking for somewhere to volunteer,” she shared.

You’re Invited! A Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Reid Park Zoo
To say THANK YOU to all of our volunteers, TIHAN is inviting you to a FREE event at the Reid Park Zoo on Thursday, April 18th from 4:30pm-7:00pm. Please join us (and bring your family and friends) for FREE admission into the Zoo, animal encounters, games, carousel rides, keeper chats, zoo attractions, local entertainment, and more than 40 local nonprofits and community partners. Food/drink will also be available for purchase. TIHAN will have a table at the event, so stop by and say hello. We’re looking forward to connecting with our volunteers and supporters, and talking to potential volunteers who might want to get involved.
Recap: Annual Meeting and Appreciation Event
We had a great crowd turning out for TIHAN’s Annual Meeting and Appreciation event, celebrating people and groups and our collective work to support people with HIV to live well. We celebrated our volunteers and community business, faith and organizational partners, and CarePartners living with HIV, had great table discussions to learn about each other and our impact, and heard a moving story from one of our CarePartners, along with notes from many more. And we enjoyed some great hors d’oeuvres, too! With our theme of Loves Lives On, we talked about TIHAN’s past, present, and our future, extending our collective legacy of honoring the love we share. Thanks to TIHAN Board President Leslie Kahn, and the Board and Committee volunteers and staff who put together a great event for a roomful of TIHAN’s best!
