Red Concert Benefit Concert a Great Success!

A beautiful crowd of 175 people gathered on a beautiful evening to dance and celebrate life at this year’s RED Concert at Three Canyon. Little House of Funk and Connie Brannock treated us to a wonderful night of Sonoran Soul music, on a night dedicated to the memory of our beloved Tina MacBeth.

Through ticket sales, raffle sales, generous sponsors, and donors, so far $28,230 has been contributed towards our goal of raising $30,000 from the concert. All proceeds will be split evenly between TIHAN and the Center for health and Hope. Hopefully additional funds will be given that will tip us over the top!

Did You Know? There’s Still Time to Get an Arizona State Tax Credit on your 2023 Tax Return!

Did you know that as a donor to TIHAN, you can receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against your Arizona state taxes— up to $421 per individual or $841 per married couple? This is not just a deduction, but a direct credit off state taxes you owe. It’s possible because TIHAN has been confirmed by the state as a Qualifying Charitable Organization providing essential services to people with lower income. And under Arizona law, if you made a contribution to TIHAN in 2023 or before April 15, 2024, you can still claim the tax credit on your 2023 tax return! So there’s still time to donate. You don’t need to itemize, and you can claim this tax credit in addition to the school and foster care tax credits! TIHAN’s QCO Code is 20359, which you should include when you file your state tax return and claim your credit. You can donate online now at www.tihan.org, then click on the DONATE MONEY button. Put your tax credit dollars where your heart is! Invest in TIHAN and our programs and services, and direct some of your state tax dollars to TIHAN. Arizona Gives Day – You Can Now Schedule to Make Your Gift on April 2 or Before!

Early Giving has started, so you can now make your gift or schedule to make your gift to support people living with HIV via TIHAN for Arizona Gives Day, which takes place on Tuesday, April 2.  Arizona Gives Day is an annual day of online giving to nonprofits around the state.  Your gift—between now and April 2—made through this link below–will count towards TIHAN’s Arizona Gives Day totals and will help increase our chances of winning a portion of $180,000 in incentive prizes!  Last year, your donations helped TIHAN be named the lucky winner of an additional $3,000 in prize money!  And most importantly, every one of your gifts, whether $10 or $10,000, supports the needs of people living with HIV who TIHAN serves!

TIHAN’s Jess Losoya Receives 2024 Leadership Award

At the 2024 RED Concert, Rev. Don Messer and team presented the 2024 Leadership Award to Jess Losoya.  Jess was chosen not only because of his seven years of volunteer work for the Center, including serving as chair and/or co-chair of the RED Concert, but also because of his tremendous day-to-day volunteer service with TIHAN, the YWCA Southern Arizona, and many other contributions to the local community, as well as through Amity Foundation, where he serves as Vice President of Services.  Here is a portion of Jess’ words upon accepting the award:

“When I decided to stop using drugs and transform my life, I understood that assisting others would play a crucial role in my journey. Having faced abuse, addiction, gang violence, imprisonment, homelessness, rejection, and stigma in my life, I empathize with these kinds of struggles.

The neglected child was me. The individual navigating life without genuine companionship was me. The person using drugs on the street corner was me. The individual without a place to call home was me. The person in the closet living a lie, afraid to come out and be myself—that was me.

I realized 16 years ago when I stopped using drugs that it was my time to be that caring person and give back to help restore dignity and justice, help others see their value, and create a future filled with hope and love.

That’s why I love volunteering with TIHAN and the center for health and hope. I can give back and help people see their worth and their potential. I can be part of building support systems that are so needed today.

Through my life of experiencing both hardships and amazing support from many people including lots of you gathered here tonight, I have recognized the importance of extending help just as I myself have received it.

I am grateful to receive this award, but I am most grateful to work with such inspiring people as we make a difference in lives every day.

This award isn’t just for me; it’s for the people who are seeking hope to persevere, envisioning a world where HIV stigma no longer exists, and where nothing will hold people back from living a purposeful life. Let this award symbolize that, regardless of your HIV status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or a past that others may judge, all of us have the ability to make a difference. All of us have a role to play in building a community that lifts people up instead of holds people down. All of us can be kind to each other.

Kindness is a precious gift we all possess, so let’s roll up our sleeves, get to work, and continue spreading kindness in this beautiful world.”
