Arizona Gives Day is Tomorrow – Tuesday, April 1

Early Giving has started, so you can make your gift now or schedule to make your gift to support people living with HIV via TIHAN for Arizona Gives Day, which takes place on Tuesday, April 1.  Arizona Gives Day is an annual day of online giving to nonprofits around the state.  Your gift—between now and April 2—made through this link below–will count towards TIHAN’s Arizona Gives Day totals and will help increase our chances of winning a portion of $160,000 in incentive prizes!  And most importantly, every one of your gifts, whether $10 or $10,000, supports the needs of people living with HIV who TIHAN serves!

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, and an Opportunity to Learn More

Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility to raise awareness about transgender people.  People who don’t conform to transitional gender norms are often met with judgment or perhaps treated with kindness, but without a true sensitivity to who they are. Today’s they are being demonized for who they are.  It’s important for all of us to learn more about what being trans or non-binary means and how we can become more understanding.  Our friends at the Tucson Jewish Museum and Holocaust Center are hosting an event on April 10th, called “Ask Me Anything” with Dr. Eric Plemons. Dr. Plemons is an Associate Professor in the School of Anthropology at the University of Arizona who has studied transgender medicine and surgery for 20 years.  Drawing on both his lived experience and his academic scholarship, Dr. Plemons will facilitate an interactive conversation driven by audience questions. If you’d like to better understand the issues facing trans people today but don’t know where to start, this is your opportunity to ask anything—from the most basic to philosophically complex.  The event is free but registration is required.

Remembering Congressman Raul Grijalva, a Champion for HIV Support and LGBTQ+ Issues

Congressman Raul Grijalva passed away after a battle with lung cancer on March 13.  He served Southern Arizona in Congress for 22 years, and was the senior member of Arizona’s Congressional delegation.  Regardless of your politics, if you cared about people with HIV and members of the LGBTQ+ community, you appreciated his steadfast advocacy for HIV funding both domestic and internationally, and his support for equality and healthcare.  His lifetime of public service benefited the people of Southern Arizona.  TIHAN will be forever grateful for Congressman Grijalva’s support, and our hearts go out to his wife Ramona and their family.

Thanks for A Successful RED Concert Benefit!

Great music, food, and beverages, in an outdoor community setting, with friends gathered around tables and firepits on a beautiful Tucson Sunday afternoon.  What could be better than that?  How about making it a benefit concert that raised over $30,000 for local HIV support services (through TIHAN), and global HIV support (through the Center for Health and Hope).  Thanks to the event sponsors, planning team, attendees, and volunteers!
