November is here, and as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we hope you know how much we appreciate you! TIHAN is blessed with wonderful volunteers, donors, CarePartners, staff, and colleagues, and we are grateful to work together for a healthier and more compassionate community…
Thank you for joining us, sharing your blessings, and helping us support each other to live well, especially during these challenging times. There is hope, and you have a part to play.
Here are a few announcements to help keep you connected and informed about TIHAN and all our happenings. Plus, one announcement that could make you much richer!
Happy Thanksgiving!

‘Tis the Season to Share Warmth and Joy Through Your Gifts

A gift can mean so much more than the actual item. Every December, our ability to hand out gifts and gift cards to CarePartners living with HIV lets them know that someone is thinking about them and wants to share with them the warmth of the season. CarePartners often tell us that the gift they receive from TIHAN is the one gift that they know they will get to enjoy each year. Can you help us make this a reality in 2022? As you shop and help spread the word, please remember:
• Gifts must be new and unused and should be donated unwrapped.
• Because CarePartners belong to a variety of faith traditions, or may not identify with any faith, we ask that holiday gifts do not portray any religious images or messages.
• It’s important for us to be able to keep gifts equitable, so please look for gifts with a value between $15 and $25.
• We are also hoping to give a $25 gift card to stores like Target, Walmart, and Fry’s to every CarePartner, so we also need donations of $25 gift cards.
• The greatest need is for gifts that would be appropriate for adult males.
• Please bring all donations to the TIHAN office by Monday, November 28.
Thank you for helping TIHAN make this holiday season more special for Tucsonans living with HIV.

Please Help Us Fold Newsletters!

It is time to get the Newsletter Folding Brigade together!  TIHAN’s final Quarterly Newsletter for 2022 is being assembled the week of November 7th and we need volunteers to help!   It’s an important and fun event as we fold the newsletter, insert a donation envelope, seal it, and apply the address labels – in preparation for mailing.  We need friendly volunteers to help us at the TIHAN office (2660 N. 1st Avenue) with the preparation of the newsletter on November 7th, 8th, and 9th. We are limiting the number of people folding in the conference room to four people at a time, and we can move additional people in other rooms as needed. Masks are encouraged, but not required at this time.  Or if you’d like to come by and pick up some materials to take and fold from the comfort of your own home, that’s great too.  To sign up, contact Jackson Mileur at 520-299-6647 ext 204 or OperationsManager@tihan.org

Help Us Honor Your Loved Ones at the All Soul’s Procession – Sunday, November 6

This annual procession downtown Tucson celebrates and honors the lives of loved ones who have passed. Inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead commemorations, this 33rd annual event is scheduled for Sunday evening, November 6.

Thousands of people gather to watch or participate in the procession, providing time to remember, to grieve, to publicly mourn and celebrate the universal experience of death. TIHAN will have a group walking together in the procession to honor and remember those we have lost, and we invite you to join us. (If you cannot be there but want us to honor your loved one, please send their name and a photo to scott@tihan.org)

If you are interested in walking with our TIHAN group, please contact Scott at scott@tihan.org or 520-299-6647 ext 202.

Supporting Two TIHAN Volunteers Riding in El Tour de Tucson Raising Funds for TIHAN

El Tour de Tucson is approaching!  Two TIHAN supporters are riding in this year’s benefit, and we’re asking for your support.

Doug Wingert, a volunteer who serves as our liaison between Catalina United Methodist Church and TIHAN, has already raised $1,335 for his ride – https://www.pledgereg.com/334175.

Steve Dahlem, a retired pediatrician and husband of TIHAN Board member Sam Parris, is riding in the event, and he’s already raised $1,209 – https://www.pledgereg.com/352697.

Links to their fundraising pages are on this page, so please consider a donation to TIHAN in honor of their efforts!

Featured CarePackage Item Needed this Month – Smaller Bottles of Laundry Detergent

We’re seeking your support with donations of smaller containers of laundry detergent to distribute to people living with HIV as part of their monthly CarePackage.

Because some of our CarePartners (clients) carry their CarePackage on their bike, on the bus, or walk home, it’s helpful if the containers of laundry detergent are not too large or heavy.  Would you consider picking up some smaller containers of laundry detergent during your next trip to the grocery store, or order it from your favorite online retailer and have it shipped to TIHAN?

Donations can be delivered to the TIHAN office Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm. Thank you for helping us to meet this need!

Reveille Men’s Chorus Offers Free Concert Tickets to TIHAN Volunteers and CarePartners!

Reveille’s holiday concert The Gift is just around the corner and they are generously offering complimentary admission to TIHAN volunteers and our CarePartners (and their guests) for the opening night, Friday, December 2nd 7:30pm performance at Leo Rich Theater (260 S Church Ave).

If you are a TIHAN volunteer and would like complimentary tickets (you and a guest), contact Jackson at OperationsManager@tihan.org.  If you are a TIHAN CarePartner and would like complimentary tickets, contact a TIHAN Link Specialist at LinkVolunteer@tihan.org.  Thank you, Reveille!

#GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is an annual day of contributing online to support nonprofits helping build a better world. Taking place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday falls on November 29. Please consider making a gift in support of TIHAN’s programs and services that help people with HIV to live well.

In addition to making an online donation, you could also consider making a difference by reaching out to friends living with HIV and tell them you are thinking of them for World AIDS Day, or contacting friends who have lost a loved one and re-connecting with them. Another way to make a difference is by looking at TIHAN’s wish list to see if you might donate an item we need. We are collecting holiday gifts for our CarePartners (clients living with HIV), toiletry items for our CarePackages, and we have many other items on our wishlist, which you can see at https://tihan.org/donate/#wishlist
